Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update September 04, 2014

The Saugus boys and girls cross country teams start the season atop the CIF Southern Section preseason polls.

The Saugus boys are ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division 2 poll.

The West Ranch boys are ranked No. 10.

The Saugus girls are ranked No. 1 in the Division 2 preseason poll. They are the only team from the Foothill League ranked in the preseason top 10.

In college soccer, The Master’s College women shut out Pomona Pitzer, 5-0.

The Lady Mustangs scored four goals in the first half.

Katie Farris scored two goals. Elvia Contreras scored a goal and had an assist.

Natasha Coyle and Jenae Garcia each scored for the Lady Mustangs.

The Master’s College, ranked No. 18 in the NAIA, is 3-2.

In high school volleyball, the West Ranch girls opened with a victory over Frontier High from Bakersfield.

The Wildcats won, 3-1. They lost the first game, then won the next three in a row.

Los Angeles Dodgers News

In the major leagues, the Dodgers lost to the Washington Nationals, 8-5, in extra innings.

The Nationals scored three runs in the top of the 14th inning to win the game. They took two of three games against the Dodgers in the series.

The Dodgers have the day off today. They start a weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood.
