Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 30, 2014

The Hart High football team won the Under the Lights passing tournament at Central Park.

Hart beat Chaminade, 17-10, in the championship game of the 7-on-7 passing tournament hosted by Saugus High.

Hart and Chaminade met in the CIF State Division II Bowl game last season.

Four teams from the Foothill League played in the Under the Lights tournament. West Ranch was 1-4 and lost to Notre Dame in the first round of playoffs.

Saugus was 3-2 with wins over Trabuco Hills, Dorsey and Golden Valley.

Golden Valley went 1-4 in the tournament. The Grizzlies beat Ventura.

In soccer, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s soccer team lost to the Colorado Pride, 4-0, in a USL W-League game.

The Pride scored three goals in the second half. The Blue Heat was shut out for the second game in a row.

In the World Cup, the Netherlands and Costa Rica advanced to the quarterfinals.

The Netherlands beat Mexico, 2-1, scoring both goals late in the second half.

Costa Rica advanced on penalty kicks over Greece.

The United States plays Belgium in their first game in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.

In auto racing, Jack Hawksworth, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport in the Verizon IndyCar Series, posted the first podium finish of his career at the Grand Prix of Houston.

He was third in the race on Sunday. He finished in sixth place in the Grand Prix of Houston race on Saturday.

At Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Lance Wilson won his first race in the NASCAR Late Models.

He won one of the twin 35 races at the track. Brian Richardson won the other twin 35 late model race.

Brock Thompson won the Spec Mods race, Randy Smith won the mini stocks race and Anthony Balcazar won the senior mini dwarfs race.

Los Angeles Sports News

In the major leagues, the Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-0, and moved into a first place tie with the San Francisco Giants in the National League West standings.

The Giants lost to the Reds.

The Dodgers took three of four games against the Cardinals over the weekend.

The Dodgers start a three-game series tonight against the Cleveland Indians. Dan Haren starts for the Dodgers against Corey Kluber for the Indians.
