Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 25, 2014

The CIF Southern Section made a big error, leaving one of the best players in the state off the All-CIF team.

Valencia’s Keston Hiura, who led the state in home runs, was added to the All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 first team a day after the All-CIF teams were released.

Hiura hit 14 home runs in 28 games. He had a .500 batting with 30 RBIs. He will continue his baseball career at UC Irvine next year.

He joins Hart’s Nick Valaika on the All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 first team.

Noah Dent from Santa Clarita Christian is on the Southern Section Division 7 first team.

Devin Davis from Valencia and Roy Verdejo from Saugus were selected to the All-CIF Southern Division 1 second team.

Tommy Curry, Clint Ross and Colt Huckabone from Santa Clarita Christian were selected to the Division 7 second team. Caleb Wilson from Trinity Classical Academy is also on the Division 7 second team.

In PONY baseball, the Hart Shetland team, fresh off winning the SoCal North Region District championship, are off to Bakersfield for another round of playoffs.

The Hart boys take on Santa Susana and Bakersfield in the first two games.

Los Angeles Sports News

In the major leagues, the Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the Kansas City Royals, 2-0, behind another gem from Clayton Kershaw.

He pitched eight scoreless innings and gave up only six hits in his first start since throwing a no-hitter against the Colorado Rockies.

Kershaw has not allowed a run in 21 1/3 innings.

The Dodgers and Royals split the first two games of the series. The rubber game is tonight.

Dan Haren starts for the Dodgers against Hart High graduate James Shields for the Royals.
