Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 24, 2014

Two players from the Santa Clarita Valley earned spots on the All-CIF Southern Section baseball teams.

Nick Valaika from Hart was selected to the Southern Section Division 1 team.

Noah Dent from Santa Clarita Christian is on the Southern Section Division 7 team.

Three players from the Foothill League were selected to the All CIF Southern Section Division 1 team.The Hart PONY Blue Shetland team won the SoCal North Region District championship, going 4-0 in the tournament.

Mariah Lopez from Saugus, Julie Lombardi from West Ranch and Dominique Salgado from Valencia are on the Division 1 team.

The Hart PONY Blue Shetland team won the SoCal North Region District championship, going 4-0 in the tournament.

The Hart team beat a team from Lancaster, 15-2, in the championship game.

In auto racing, Canyon High graduate Greg Pursley padded his lead in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West standings at Sonoma Raceway over the weekend.

He was the runner-up in the Carneros 200. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rookie Kyle Larson won the race.

Pursley extended his lead in the West Series standings to 21 points over Dylan Lupton. Pursley has yet to finish outside the top five in six West Series races.

The next West Series race is at Stateline Speedway in Idaho on July 12.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the major leagues, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Kansas City Royals, 5-3. Zack Greinke gave up all five runs in 5 2/3 innings. He is 9-4 after the loss.

Adrian Gonzalez hit his 13th home run of the season, a solo shot in the ninth inning.

The Dodgers and the Royals continue their season tonight.

Clayton Kershaw starts for the Dodgers against Danny Duffy for the Royals.
