Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 20, 2014

Valencia High graduate Madison Shipman, who completed her senior softball season at the University of Tennessee, won a Honda Sport Award.

She is the second female athlete from Tennessee to win the award.

Shipman is now a finalist for the Collegiate Women’s Athlete of the Year and the 2014 Honda Cup.

She led the Volunteers in hitting with a .417 batting average, 18 home runs and 54 RBIs.

Tennessee reached the Super Regionals in the NCAA Softball World Series.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers start a weekend series against the Padres tonight.

The Dodgers are coming of a no-hitter by Clayton Kershaw against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night.

Kershaw struck out a career-high 15 batters and walked none. Only one batter reached base on an error in the seventh inning.

Josh Beckett threw a no-hitter for the Dodgers against the Philadelphia Phillies on May 25. The last time two Dodger pitchers threw no-hitters in the same season was in 1956. Carl Erskine and Sal Maglie did it on the Brooklyn Dodgers that season.

No team has thrown three no-hitters in the same season. Nolan Ryan pitched two no-hitters for the Angels in 1973. Roy Halladay pitched two in one season for the Phillies. One came in the playoffs.

Dan Haren will take the mound for the Dodgers tonight against the Padres. Ian Kennedy starts for San Diego.
