Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 16, 2014

Start spreading the news. The Los Angeles Kings are Stanley Cup champions again.

The Kings beat the New York Rangers, 3-2 in double overtime, in Game 5 at Staples Center. The Kings won the series, 4-1.

Justin Williams won the Conn Smythe Trophy, the MVP of the plyoffs.Los Angeles Kings are Stanley Cup champions again

In celebration of winning their second Stanley Cup in three years, the Kings will have a parade in downtown Los Angeles today. The festivities are set to start at noon.

Canyon High graduate Chris Low became the first runner from Long Beach State to earn All-America recognition at the NCAA Track and Field championships in Oregon.

He was seventh in the 800 meters final in 1 minute, 48.28 seconds.

Low won two state championships in the 800 while at College of the Canyons. He holds the school record at Long Beach State in the 800 as well.

Brandon McBride of Mississippi won the 800 at the NCAA national championships.

In auto racing, 13-year old Brandon Weaver was a double winner at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield on Saturday night.

He won the SRL S2 Tour race and the INEX Legends race. He is the first driver to win races in two divisions at the track this season.

In other action, Brian Richardson won the first of two NASCAR Late Models races. Eric Richardson won the second Late Models race.

Chris Dalton won the Spec Mods race. Tyler Bannister won the Bandolero race.

In the NBA, the San Antonio Spurs won the NBA championship, downing the Miami Heat, 104-87, in Game 5.

The Spurs have won five NBA championships.

In the major leagues, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-3. The Dodgers took two of three games against the Diamondbacks over the weekend.

The Dodgers takes on the Colorado Rockies tonight at Dodgers Stadium.

Hyun-Jin Ryu starts for the Dodgers against Tyler Matzek for the Rockies.
