Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update July 15, 2014

The Hart girls basketball team won the third-place game 54-45 over Burroughs of Burbank in the Providence summer tournament.

Sophia Jacobson scored 18 points, had five assists and four rebounds for Hart.

Julia White added 10 points and four rebounds for the Indians. Breze Kimble scored eight points and had four assists.

In auto racing, Jack Hawksworth, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport in the Verizon IndyCar Series, was 15th in the Iowa Corn Indy 300 at Iowa Speedway.

The driver for the team owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta, started 20th and moved up five spots over the race.

Ryan Hunter-Reay won the race, his third victory of the season.

In the major leagues, Yoenis Cespedes from the Oakland A’s won the home run derby for the second year in a row.

Yasiel Puig from the Dodgers was shut out.

Cespedes became the first player to repeat as home run derby champion since Ken Griffey Jr. in 1998 and 1999.

Puig became the first player to not hit a home run since Robinson Cano in 2012.

Cespedes beat Todd Frazier from in the Cincinnati Reds in the final round, 9-1. Cespedes hit 28 home runs total in the derby.

The All Star game is tonight at Target Field in Minneapolis. Four Dodgers are on the National League All Star team. Puig is starting in right field. Second baseman Dee Gordon is a reserve.

Pitchers Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke are also on the team.

Adam Wainright from the St. Louis Cardinals will start for the National League against Felix Hernandez from the Seattle Mariners for the American League.
