Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update July 08, 2014

Two players from the Foothill League were selected to the Cal-Hi Sports All State team.

Valencia’s Keston Hiura and Hart’s Nick Valaika earned spots on the All State first team.

Hiura led the state in home runs with 14. He had 48 hits, scored 43 runs and had 12 doubles.

Valaika hit .400 with three home runs and scored 23 runs.

Valencia’s Chad Bible and West Ranch’s Jake Bird were selected to the Cal-Hi Sports All State third team.

Devin Davis, a junior at Valencia High School, and Mariah Lopez, a sophomore pitcher on the Saugus softball team, were selected to the Cal-Hi Sports All Underclassmen teams.

World Cup 2014

In the World Cup, it’s down to the final four.

Brazil takes on Germany in the first semifinal today.

The Netherlands plays Argentina in the second semifinal on Wednesday.

The game between Brazil and Germany kicks off at 10 this morning.

Los Angeles Dodgers

In the major leagues, the Dodgers are in Detroit for a quick two-game series against the Tigers.

Hyun-Jin Ryu starts for the Dodgers. He is in search of his 10th win of the season.

Justin Verlander starts for the Tigers.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood.
