Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update August 26, 2014

The Master’s College women’s soccer team won its first game of the season, 2-1, against Southern Oregon University.

Katie Farris scored both goals including the game-winner in overtime.

Southern Oregon took a 1-0 lead in the first half. The Lady Mustangs tied the score with 13 minutes to play. Farris knocked in the deciding goal 33 seconds into overtime.

The Master’s College is 1-1 and returns home on Wednesday for a game against Menlo College.

In swimming, Hart High graduate Anthony Ervin won two silver medals at the Pan Pacific Championships in Australia.

He won a silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle. Bruno Fratus won the gold medal in 21.44 seconds. Ervin touched the wall in 21.73 seconds.

He also won a silver medal on the 400-meter freestyle relay team for the United States.

Saugus High’s Abbey Weitzeil won a silver medal on the women’s 400-meter freestyle relay team.

 In the major leagues, the Dodgers start a series against the Diamondbacks in Arizona tonight.

The Dodgers are in first place in the National League West standings, four-and-a-half games ahead of the San Francisco Giants.
