Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update August 22, 2014

Saugus High’s Abbey Weitzeil qualified seventh in the 100-meter freestyle at the Pan Pacific Championships in Australia.

Weitzeil is making her debut on the United States national swim team.

Her US teammates Missy Franklin and Simone Manuel qualified fourth and fifth in the 100 meters.

Weitzeil will swim in the 100 meter freestyle B final for the United States.

She will also compete in the 50-meter freestyle on Sunday. She is also eligible to swim on the 400 meter freestyle relay team.

In college soccer, The Master’s College men lost their season opener, 1-0, to the University of Great Falls in the Westminster Kickoff Classic in Utah.

Great Falls scored the lone goal of the game in the 42nd minute.

In auto racing, the NASCAR Citgo Late Models will race twin 35s at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield on Saturday night.

The Spec Mods, Mini Stocks and Mini Dwarfs are also scheduled to race. A SuperMoto exhibition is also on tap.

The green flag drops at 7.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers beat the visiting Padres, 2-1. Clayton Kershaw took a no hitter into the sixth inning. He struck out 10 in eight innings and won his 15th game of the season.

Next up for the Dodgers are the New York Mets.
