Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update August 21, 2014

The Trinity Classical Academy has a new head basketball coach.

Jeremy Haggerty takes over the Trinity boys basketball program after being an assistant coach on the team.

Haggerty takes over a team that won the CIF Southern Section Division 6 championship last season and advanced to the CIF State tournament.

Trinity has reached the championship game of the CIF Southern Section Divisional playoffs the past two seasons.

John Brooks coached the team the past four seasons. He was 69-33 and reached the CIF State playoffs the past two seasons.

Haggerty played basketball and Canyon High and The Master’s College. He worked as an assistant basketball coach at West Ranch and Canyon.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers lost to the San Diego Padres, 4-1. The Padres scored three runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.

Dodgers starter Roberto Hernandez was roughed up in his Dodger Stadium debut. He gave up four runs on eight hits in five innings.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood.
