Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update August 13, 2014

Valencia High graduate Jonathan Chang advanced to the match play portion of the US Amateur golf championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Georgia.

West Ranch graduate JJ Holen was 7-over par in the first two rounds of the tournament and did not qualify for match play.

Chang was 1-over par on the second day of stroke play. He was even-par after the first day. Chang finished in a tie for 43rd place.

The top-64 players moved on to match play. Chang plays Taylor Pendrith from Canada in match play today.

Lee McCoy from Clarkesville, Ga., and Taylor Moore from Edmond, Okla., tied for the lead in stroke play at 8-under.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves, 4-2. Dan Haren won his 10th game of the season giving up one run in six innings.

Matt Kemp drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning.
