Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Christian Baseball Ranked No. 1 In CIF

The Santa Clarita Christian baseball team shut out Trinity Classical Academy, 13-0, in the Heritage League opener for both teams.

Santa Clarita Christian, ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division 7 poll, scored nine runs in the first inning.

Santa Clarita Christian improved to 7-0 overall. The Cardinals play Albert Einstein Academy on Friday.

In college baseball, the College of the Canyons lost to Citrus College, 9-0, in a Western State Conference game.Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Christian Baseball Ranked No. 1 In CIF

Citrus scored five runs in the seventh inning to break open the game.

COC collected only four hits in the game, all singles. David Oppenheim was 1-for-2 with a walk.

The Cougars dropped to 9-4 in conference. They take on LA Valley College on Thursday.

The Master’s College baseball team won both games of a doubleheader against La Sierra University. The Mustangs won the first game, 14-1, and the second game, 7-2.

In college softball, the College of the Canyons swept a doubleheader against LA Valley College. The Lady Cougars won the first game, 11-1, and shut out Valley in the second game, 8-0.

COC is 11-1 in the Western State Conference and 14-12 overall.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the visiting Portland Trail Blazers, 124-112. The Lakers have lost three of their past four games. They play the Kings in Sacramento tonight.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres, 3-2. Yasiel Puig hit a two-run home run in the first inning and starter Zack Greinke gave up two runs on two hits in five innings for the win.

The Dodgers wrap up their series against the Padres tonight. Dan Haren starts for the Dodgers against Tyson Ross for the Padres. First pitch is at 7:10.

In the NHL, the Kings are home for a game against the Phoenix Coyotes tonight. The Kings are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Monday night. But the Kings have won six of their past seven games.
