Santa Clarita Sports: Hart And West Ranch Baseball Teams Ranked In CIF

The Hart and West Ranch baseball teams are ranked in the top 10 of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll.

Hart is ranked No. 3. West Ranch comes in at No. 5. Harvard-Westlake is the No. 1 team in Division 1.

Hart is 6-0-1 and opens Foothill League play against Canyon on Wednesday.

West Ranch is 5-2 and plays Valencia on the road in its Foothill League opener on Wednesday.

Santa Clarita Christian is No. 2 in the Division 7 poll. Riverside Prep is No. 1.

In high school tennis, the West Ranch boys are ranked No. 7 in the Southern Section Division 2 poll.

In high school softball, West Ranch lost to Burbank, 5-4, in the championship game of the High Desert Classic in Lancaster.

Keeley Walsh went 1-for-4 and drove in two runs for West Ranch. Jessica Harper was 2-for-3 and drove in a run. West Ranch is 6-3.

In swimming, Hart High graduate Nick Korth won an NCAA Division II championship in the 200-yard breaststroke with a record-breaking time.

The senior at UC San Diego won the race in 1 minute, 54.45 seconds, an NCAA Division II record. It was his second NCAA Division II swimming championship in his career.

In soccer, the Canyon Boys U12 team from Region 677 won the AYSO Extra State Championship, 4-2, over Pacific Palisades.

Alex Osorio scored two goals for the Canyon team.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the NBA, the Clippers lost to the Denver Nuggets, 110-100, and had their 11-game winning streak snapped. The Clippers have a few days off before their next game. They play the Detroit Pistons on Saturday.

In the NHL, the Los Angeles Kings lost to the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-3. The Coyotes scored two goals in the third period to win the game. The Kings have lost three games in a row.

Next up for the Kings are the Washington Capitals on Thursday.
