Santa Clarita Sports: Foothill League Softball Battles In Playoffs

The Kings are down 1-0 in the Western Conference finals of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

They can even the series tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Kings lost the first game of the series, 3-1, on Sunday.

In high school softball, West Ranch won its first round playoff game on a rough day for teams from the Foothill League.Santa Clarita Sports: Foothill League Softball Battles In Playoffs

West Ranch won, 20-0, in a five-inning, mercy-rule game against Pacifica of Oxnard in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

The Wildcats scored 10 runs in the first inning. Fourteen batters came to the plate in that inning.

West Ranch plays Cypress in the second round on Thursday.

The Valencia softball team lost to Oxnard, 5-2, in the first round of the playoffs.

The Saugus softball team lost to Canyon of Anaheim, 4-3.

The Canyon softball team lost to Pacifica of Garden Grove, 6-0.

The Santa Clarita Christian softball team shut out California Military Institute, 1-0 in nine innings, in the first round of the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs.

 The Trinity Classical Academy softball team lost to Hawthorne Math and Science Academy, 19-13, in the first round of the Division 7 playoffs.

In college golf, three players from College of the Canyons qualified for the California Amateur Championship at La Costa Resort in Carlsbad.

Sidney Wolf, Michael Stewart and Howard Bernstein finished in the top six in the qualifying tournament at Crystalaire Country Club.

Wolf won the tournament with a 3-under 69. Stewart and Bernstein finished in a tie for third place with even-par 72s.

The California Amateur Championship starts on June 16.

In the NBA, the Lakers have the seventh pick overall in the upcoming draft.

The Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA lottery and have the No. 1 pick in the draft. The Cavaliers have won the No. 1 pick in three of the past four lotteries.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers started their New York visit on a winning note. They beat the Mets, 9-4.

Adrian Gonzalez had three hits including a two-run home run. Yasiel Puig had three hits and is batting .333.

The Dodgers continue their series against the Mets tonight. Hyun-Jin Ryu starts for the Dodgers against Jacob deGrom for the Mets.
