The College of the Canyons softball team split a doubleheader with Citrus College and took over first place in the Western State Conference game.
The Lady Cougars lost the first game, 8-6, but won the second game, 5-4.
Kori Cochran doubled in two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for COC in the second game.

In pro softball, Valencia High graduate Madison Shipman was drafted No. 2 overall by the USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch league.
She joins Hart graduate Jessica Shults and Valencia graduate Jordan Taylor on the Pride.
Shipman is a senior shortstop at the University of Tennessee.
In college golf, the College of the Canyons men’s team set a school record with a score of 345 at the Marshall Canyon Golf Course in La Verne.
The COC men won their seventh Western State Conference game of the year. They are 47-2.
The COC men broke the school record of 350 set in 2013.
COC won the event at Marshall Canyon by 18 strokes over Ventura College. Edouard Fiszel shot a 4-under 67. Teammate Aaron Grimes shot a 3-under 68.

In the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Houston Rockets, 145-130. Steve Nash had five assists and moved into third place on the NBA’s career assists lists.
The Lakers lost their 53rd game of the season and set a franchise record for most losses in a season.
The Lakers play the Golden State Warriors on Friday night.
In the major leagues, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the visiting Detroit Tigers, 3-2 in extra innings. Chone Figgins scored the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Dee Gordon hit a solo home run in the first inning.
The Dodgers and Tigers are back at it tonight at Dodger Stadium. Josh Beckett starts for the Dodgers against Anibal Sanchez for the Tigers. First pitch is at 7:10.
In the NHL, the Los Angeles Kings take on the Calgary Flames tonight. The Kings lost to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. They have lost three of their past four games.
