Hart’s Connor Wingenroth Tops All CIF Football Selections

Hart running back Connor Wingenroth was selected as the All-CIF Southern Section Northern Division offensive player of the year.

Wingenroth led the Hart football team to its ninth CIF championship in school history. Hart beat Valencia in the Northern Division championship game in December.

Hart’s Mike Herrington was selected as the coach of the year. Six other players from Hart were selected to the Northern Division first team on offense and defense.

Receivers Davis Koppenhaver and Trent Irwin and lineman Blake Porter earned spots on the first team offense.

David Russon, Garrett Updegraft and Wes Fitzpatrick were selected to the first team on defense.

Four players from Valencia earned spots on the Northern Division first team. They are Nick Jones, Jay Jay Wilson, Jourdan Nguyen and Cole Murphy.

Canyon quarterback Cade Apsay and defensive back Liam Cabrera were selected to the Northern Division first team.

Blake Austin, a linebacker from Saugus, rounds out the Foothill League selections.

In high school basketball, the Hart boys are ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2A poll and on the watch list to make the playoffs in the open division.

The Canyon boys are ranked No. 5 in Division 2AA.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys are ranked No. 4 in Division 5A.

The Trinity Classical Academy boys are ranked No. 1 in Division 6.

In girls basketball, Canyon is ranked No. 5 in Division 1A.

The Golden Valley girls are tied for seventh with North Torrance in the Division 2A poll. The Hart girls are ranked No. 10 in the Division 2A poll.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the NHL, the Kings shut out the visiting Vancouver Canucks, 1-0. Dustin Brown scored the game-winner in the third period.

Next up for the Kings are the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.
