The Hart Mustang 9U Red Team won the inaugural Mustang-9 World Series tournament 7-2 against North Valley over the weekend.

“We had a great run and came home with a championship,” said Gavin Plasschaert, business manager for the Hart Mustang 9U Red Team. “The boys played phenomenal and I could not be more proud for the team as a whole. We are so proud to represent Hart and the Santa Clarita community.”
The team of 9 year olds played against eight teams from Texas, Mexico, Hawaii, Granada Hills, North Carolina and Walnut.
“In one of the games, Sage Marvin had a grand slam against Mexico. Greg Pierantoni won the batting average title with a 692 batting average for series. Blake Schroeder hit a home run,” Plasschaert said.”TJ Cataldi pitched five and a third innings last night. Ian Duarte came in for the save with one pitch that doubled up the runners. “

The team had two double plays, one to to end the rally in the first inning and one to end that game, said Jesse Hinojosa, manager for the Hart Mustang 9U Red Team.
Hundreds of people filled the stands for the four day tournament.
“The cool thing was that it was webcasted and all of the coaches phones were blowing up about the game from people watching at home,” Plasschaert said. “Walnut did a great job hosting.”

The team players include TJ Cataldi, Ian Duarte, Casey Hinojosa, Sage Marvin, Shane Overholser, Greg Pierantoni, Zach Plasschaert, Blake Schroeder, Jake Schwartz, Stephan Soghomonian and Joseph Steventon.
The team is managed by Hinojosa, Assistant Coach Dennis Duarte and Plasschaert.
“The game was a nail-biter,” said Hinojosa. “We beat a very good team and I’m very happy for my boys, coaches and families.”
