The Hart Baseball 9U Red Team won the 2014 Mustang 9U West Zone Super Region Tournament at Hart PONY Baseball and Softball Complex on Monday.

“The HART Mustang 9U Red Team went 4-0 this weekend at the Hart PONY Baseball and Softball Complex to win the Mustang 9U Super Regions Tournament,” said Gavin Plasschaert, business manager for the Hart Mustang 9U Red Team “The Hart 9U Red Team beat the North Valley All Stars 10-4 in the Championship game to defend their home turf and bring home the title.”

The team is scheduled to advance to the number one seed in Southern California to play the Zone PONY Tournament in Walnut, Calif.

“A lot of great plays happened this weekend,” Plasschaert said.

The team is made of of all nine year olds and the tournament spanned over six days with the last game ending Tuesday. Tuesday games will let competitors compete for second place in the tournament.

“The boys played outstanding baseball by scoring 40 runs and only allowed 12 runs against during the four games,” Plasschaert said.

Team players include TJ Cataldi, Wyatt Crosby, Ian Duarte, Casey Hinojosa, Sage Marvin, Shane Overholser, Greg Pierantoni, Zach Plasschaert, Blake Schroeder, Jake Schwartz, Stephan Soghomonian and Joseph Steventon.

“Blake Schroeder hit two home runs during the tournament and threw a complete game for the win last night,” Plasschaert said. “During the game last night, Casey Hinojosa, Ian Duarte and Jake Schwartz combined for a 6-4-3 double play to stop the threat in the third inning.”

The first game for the team in the Zone PONY Tournament begins July 18 against the West Seattle Niners from Washington.
