Santa Clarita Planning Community Drill Wednesday

Residents Encouraged to Participate in a City Wide “Drop, Cover and Hold” Drill.

On April 16, at 9:05 a.m., the City extends an invitation to everyone in the community to practice earthquake preparedness by participating in a “Drop, Cover, and Hold” drill, whether at work, home, or school. For this community drill, everyone is encouraged to remain in the “Drop, Cover, and Hold” position for 30 seconds.

To facilitate this drill at your location(s), the City suggests the following:

  • Send an e-mail notification about the drill.
  • Utilize an intercom system, if available, to announce the start of the drill.
  • Listen to KHTS AM 1220, as the notification will be broadcast at 9:05 a.m.  You may receive KHTS AM 1220 via live internet stream at www.hometownstation.com.

Drop, Cover and Hold involves dropping to the floor, taking cover under a sturdy desk or table, and holding onto it firmly.

The “Drop, Cover and Hold” drill is part of the 12 month City wide campaign for Safety Awareness. The month of April is Emergency Preparedness Month.  Please promote and practice preparedness by participating in this drill.  If this date or time does not work for you, the City still encourages your organization to organize a similar drill in the near future.

For more information about how to facilitate this drill, or about the Safety Awareness campaign, please call Donna Nuzzi, City Emergency Services Supervisor at (661) 286-4093.
