    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update August 12, 2014

    Hart High graduate Anthony Ervin broke a 13-year drought at the US Swim Championships in Irvine.

    Ervin won the 50-yard freestyle, upsetting five-time national champion Nathan Adrian. It was Ervin’s first win in the 50 freestyle in 13 years.

    Castaic Lake Water Agency Announces Candidates For Governing Board

    Steven Brooks, Stephen Daniels and Stacy Fortner have officially filed for candidacy for the Castaic Lake Water Agency’s upcoming November governing board election, according to CLWA officials. Brooks is scheduled to run against incumbent Ed Colley to represent division one, Daniels will challenge incumbent Robert DiPrimio to represent division two and Fortner is expected to run against incumbents Gary Martin and Tom Campbell for a seat as a member at large, according to the county officials. During the 2012 election, no incumbents were challenged, according to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's Office. The deadline to file was Aug. 8.

    About 90 Santa Clarita Valley residents put away the mouse and meme Sunday night for FoodieFest14, turning a Facebook group into a community potluck feast for all walks of SCV life. “Really, it was just about getting everybody together to share with each other and bond over what is possibly the greatest bonding element, which is food,” said Todd Wilson, one of the lead organizers of the event and an “admin” for the Facebook page “Santa Clarita Foodies.” The event was hosted at the Wolf Creek Brewery Tasting Room inside the Mann Biomedical Park in Santa Clarita from 6-9:30 p.m., and entertainment was provided by Corner Pocket, a band invited by local musician and member Jason McKay.

    Valencia High graduate Alison Lee lost in the quarterfinals at the US Women’s Amateur golf championship at Nassau Country Club in New York.

    Lee, the third-ranked amateur in the world, lost to Brooke Mackenzie Henderson, the No. 2 amateur in the world.

    Henderson won 1-up and never trailed in the match. She went 2-up on the 12th hole, but Lee cut her lead to 1-up on the 17th hole. Henderson won the match with a par on the 18th hole.

    Four More Rabid Bats Reported In Santa Clarita

    More than half of reported cases of rabid bats in Los Angeles County have been discovered in the Santa Clarita Valley, officials said Friday.
