    Two City Planning Projects Highlighted

    Los Angeles Section of the American Planning Association gives kudos to SCV.

    The City of Santa Clarita received two honors from the Los Angeles Section of the American Planning Association (APA) and will be recognized at a ceremony at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, CathedralPlaza on Tuesday, June 12th.


    Gorman Brush Fire Update

    A large brush fire is currently burning in the Gorman area.

    As of Sunday afternoon, 200 fire fighters are trying to fight the fire which has burned over 2,500 acres.

    There have been 3,000 people evacuated. There is no concern for traffic on the I-5 North and South. As of Sunday afternoon, the fire is about 80% contained, with the hope that it will be 100% contained by 6:00pm Sunday night. The fire started on Saturday afternoon.

    The City of Santa Clarita’s Transit Maintenance Facility received the 2007 Excellence in Transportation Award by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in the Transportation Related Facilities category.


    Hunger's Best Defense Is Food

    Hunger Defense Fund holds “Hunger Awareness Day”

    On Tuesday, June 5th, the Hunger Defense Fund is inviting Santa Clarita to stop by their offices in Canyon Country for National Hunger Awareness Day. From 1:00 to 4:00pm, they’ll be giving out free hot dogs, hamburgers and sodas.


    Donations to the Hunger Defense Fund are also always welcome, but not a requirement.

    This coincides with two fundraising events in Santa Clarita that day that KHTS is sponsoring.


    SCV Sheriff's Station Looks Into Complaints

    County Report brings attention to how department handles citizens’ complaints.

    Special Counsel Merrick J. Bobb, along with staff at the Police Assessment Resource Center released an April report that looked into six LA County Sheriff’s Stations: Century, Compton, Lakewood, Palmdale, Pico Rivera, and Santa Clarita.


    In the report, they analyzed the station’s response to citizen complaints, Unit Level Investigations, and they drew shooting and use of force tables.

    Domestic Violence Center To Host Golf Tournament

    Programs help local women and families

    On Monday, July 30th the Domestic Violence Center of the Santa Clarita Valley will host their inaugural Golf Tournament at Robinson Ranch Golf Course.  Bob Kellar, City of Santa Clarita City Council Member, and Chris Fall, Immediate Past Chair of the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce, have been named honorary co-chairs of the event set to kick-off with a shotgun start at 10:00am.


    Weekend Jam Packed With Events

    Whether you’re looking to make a difference, get information, or be entertained, there are a lot of choices this weekend in Santa Clarita

    The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be making two presentations on Saturday at Rio VistaSchool. They are designed to teach parents what to look for in their children’s lives, and how to combat issues relating to their child’s well being.


    The first presentation will be about gangs and graffiti. The second will address bullying and internet safety.


    Freeway Series Starts Tonight!

    Dodgers take on Angels on KHTS.  Tune into KHTS AM-1220 tonight at 6:30 for the pre-game show. Game time is at 7:00.
