Waste Management Workshop To Be Hosted By College Of The Canyons

College of the Canyons is hosting a workshop for Santa Clarita residents that focuses on medical hazardous waste management.

The workshop Hazardous Waste Management and Pollution Prevention for Medical and Dental Offices and Hospitals will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 17, in the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, Room 258, located on the college’s Valencia campus (University Center Drive entrance).

COC and the Health Workforce Initiative invite healthcare providers, educators, government agencies and the general public to attend a free workshop focused on Hazardous Waste Management and Pollution Prevention for Medical and Dental Offices and Hospitals.

The Industry Assistance and Outreach Unit, California Department of Toxic Substances Control will conduct the workshop.

The workshop is free and open to the public, but due to limited seating capacity, attendees are asked to register in advance by visiting http://bit.ly/1k7D5u1.

College Of The Canyons News

Managing hazardous wastes and common sources of pollutants and wastes at medical and dental facilities will be topics featured at the workshop. Hazardous waste laws and regulations will also be featured, along with a question and answer session.

“Throughout the workshop, DTSC environmental scientists will be available to answer specific questions regarding compliance activities and provide helpful resources,” according to a COC news release.

Attendance groups that may find this presentation of particular interest include medical and dental office administrators; office managers; risk management, facilities, and plant service personnel; and government and private sector environmental health and safety professionals.

The event is supported in part by grants from the Workforce and Economic Development Division of the California Community Colleges, Chancellor’s Office.
