Vincenzo’s Tribute Event To Remember COC Jazz Director Dirk Fischer

Stewart Roussin “Dirk” Fischer, an Instructor of Jazz Studies at the College of the Canyons for more than 28 years and noted composer, arranger, trumpeter and valve trombonist will be remembered with a Tribute concert at Vincenzo’s Pizza on Lyons Avenue, on Sunday April 28 from 12 to 4 p.m.

Fischer taught at COC from 1977 to 2005 and died in February of this year, at age 88.

The College of the Canyons found Fischer by accident. At the suggestion of his wife, Roz, Fischer visited COC as a possible outlet to play his horn and to meet others with like interests. After being hired at COC, he quickly built a formidable program. One of Fischer’s many legacies is the RK Downs Jazz Festival, held annually at COC.

In celebration of Dirk’s musical contribution, a group of musician will form a Tribute Band and play a Big Band Concert.

The event is free and open to the public. To read Fischer’s obituary written by KHTS’ Stephen Peeples, click here.
