The “Day on the Water,” on Saturday at Castaic Lake, is sponsored by the Wounded Warrior Project, Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, Friends of Castaic Lake, Top Stick Tour and the Fregoso Outdoor Foundation.
The event was organized to honor soldiers who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Ed Cox, Fregoso Foundation board member said that the goal is to “let these guys to know that they’re appreciated.”
The Fregoso Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to helping soldiers cope with combat, deployment and the adjustment of coming home through outdoor activities.
This year they are partnering with Top Stick Tour, which has been doing a “Day on the Water” for veterans for several years.
More than 20 boats have been volunteered for the event, and Cox said that there are about four open slots for veterans who want to participate.
Veterans must check in at the lake by 7 a.m. and fish until 1 p.m.
Once participants and their guides are done fishing, they can weigh in their catches and enjoy a barbecue and raffle.
Cox said that the idea is to give veterans the whole bass fishing competition experience.
“It’s pretty therapeutic for them, and we like to see that,” he said.
Most volunteer positions have been filled for the event, but if you would like to come to Castaic Lake, your support is welcome.
