Raul Diaz Jr., 55, of Van Nuys, was killed when the 2002 Harley Davidson he was driving southbound on Sierra Highway “failed to follow the curve of the roadway and continued straight,” a CHP report stated.

“(H)is front tire went up and over a raised concrete curb and down a descending landscape slope,” the report states. His Harley Davidson Road Glide “continued forward until the front end of (the vehicle) struck a dip in the dirt, causing (Diaz) to be ejected onto the dirt, resulting in fatal injuries.”

The crash occurred at about 7:37 p.m. on Sierra Highway at the Red Rover Mine Road off-ramp from Highway 14, said CHP Officer Patrick Kimball.

Both the victim and his motorcycle ended up near the intersection of Red Rover and Sierra.

Diaz’s rate of speed at the time he lost control of his vehicle was undetermined.

A Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedic pronounced him dead at 7:59 p.m.

Emergency responders concluded their work and the roadway was fully reopened at 10:08 p.m.
