UPDATE: Valencia High Student Hurt In Crash On Tesoro Del Valle

Updates the condition of the driver and the passenger
A high rate of speed led to a crash in Valencia that put two Santa Clarita teens in the hospital Tuesday afternoon, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Heather Cavallero, 17,  a senior at Valencia High, was driving northbound on Tesoro Del Valle, near Calle Verano, where she “failed to negotiate a right turn” around 3 p.m., according to CHP Officer E.J. Bejar, who filed the report.

Cavallero is still in critical condition, according to Katreena Salgado, spokeswoman for Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.  

Both driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts in the crash. Cavallero’s rate of speed was going is part of an ongoing investigation.

There was one passenger in the car, Taylor Lahs, 16, also of Santa Clarita, who sustained minor injuries in the crash. She was released from the hospital.

Both were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time.

CHP and L.A. County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene.

Cavallero sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.

There were no arrests and drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in this crash.

This collision remains under investigation.
