While facing a number of health issues, the Parr family of Valencia hopes they won’t also lose their house.
Little more than a month away from losing their home a second time, the Parr family of Valencia is asking the community to help them pay the back property taxes they owe, after a number of medical emergencies and job losses.

Jennifer Parr started a GoFundMe.com account earlier this month, and within five days, they raised more than $6,100, but that’s little more than half of the $11,000 they need to raise by June 30 to keep their home.
“Every time I get another donation, I just can’t believe it,” Jennifer Parr said. “…I can never thank anybody enough. There’s just no words to describe. I’m just dumfounded. It’s very humbling.”
Jennifer and her husband, Michael Parr’s oldest daughter, Nicole, 30, was diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome when she was 18 months old.
Prader-Willi Syndrome is a genetic disorder that causes chronic hunger and is the “most common known genetic cause of life-threatening obesity in children,” according to the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association website.
Due to complications with her condition, including a fractured hip, congestive heart failure, kidney failure and acute respiratory failure, Nicole has been in the hospital six times during the past three years, Jennifer Parr said.
“Our lives revolve around her,” she said. “Everything you do or don’t do, it’s about Nicole. She will always be the number one thing that you have to worry about.”
On top of that, the family lost their home of 17 years in 2012 after Michael Parr was injured on the job and put on disability.
After working with the bank for months to try and refinance their home, the bank told the family that there was nothing they could do to save it, Jennifer Parr said.
They moved into her mother-in-law’s house two doors down, and Jennifer Parr got a job in Oxnard, but had to quit when her husband was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s last June, according to their GoFundMe page.
Their three other children, Anthony, Cody and Courtney help with expenses when they can but have their own bills to pay as well, Jennifer Parr said.
To her, keeping their current house means keeping Nicole with her family and out of a care facility for as long as possible.
“There are days where it’s hard,” Jennifer Parr said, “but we wouldn’t want her anywhere else… She’s special, and she brings joy to so many people’s lives. She’s made me who I am today, given me the strength to get through a lot of stuff.”
