The organization is the Triumph Foundation, whose mission is to help individuals with spinal cord injuries and inspire them to keep moving forward with their lives.
“We have people that become paralyzed, and help them triumph over obstacles,” said Andrew Skinner, executive director of the Triumph Foundation.
The foundation conducts hospital visits where they provide care baskets to individuals who have recently received spinal cord injuries. They also help people who are not insured get grants to pay for the recovery costs.
The Triumph Foundation organizes wheelchair sporting events and recreational activities as well as support groups to help individuals readjust after an injury.
“We’re the club no one wants to join,” said Skinner, “But once you’re in you’re like family.”
The foundation will celebrate their five year anniversary Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Valencia.
The event will feature a Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament, Craps, Blackjack and Roulette. It will also include a prime rib dinner, music and a silent auction.
“This is our big fundraiser,” Skinner said.
The Triumph Foundation has helped more than 2,000 individuals affected by spinal cord injury. They have given $20,000 in assistance to people with inadequate medical insurance, and remodeled seven homes.
They provide wheelchair accessible vehicles to people who can not purchase their own.
“We’ve snowballed and our foundation has really grown,” said Skinner, “The community has really rallied behind us.”
They have handed out more than 500 care baskets to newly injured people, and regularly visit 15 hospitals and rehabilitation centers throughout Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura Counties.
“I got here eight years ago and wanted to try and make it easy for the next guy,” Skinner said.
Tickets to the Let’em Roll Casino Night are a $100 donation and are available on their website, or checks can be made out to Triumph Foundation and mailed to 28878 Shadyview Dr. Santa Clarita, CA 91387.
