Sandra Bull, Stacie Allegra and Carl Puckett will run in the Nov. 5 elections for Newhall School District, Saugus Union School District and Newhall County Water District boards, respectively.

Bull, a former assistant principal who has worked in the Sulphur Springs School District and at a private school in the San Fernando Valley, will bring her many years of education experience to the table, experience that the three incumbents don’t have, she said.

“I think I have a lot to give,” Bull said. “I care a lot about kids, and I think I have different approach than someone who hasn’t been in education.”

Bull said that, if elected, she would focus on helping fifth and sixth graders develop college and career goals, especially in Title 1 schools, where students might be more disadvantaged.

“When I interacted with students, they didn’t realize they could go to college,” Bull said.

Ultimately, she said that with more than 25 years of experience, she knows how to work with students, teachers and staff.

“I know how school works, know parent needs, know student needs,” she said.

Allegra, running for the Saugus Union School board, has lived in Saugus for 26 years and her four children attended schools in the district.

She volunteered in the schools while her children attended, in addition to coaching AYSO soccer and serving on the AYSO Region 678 board.

Allegra said now that she has the time, “I really want to give back to the community.”

She feels she has “a really good, fresh viewpoint, coming in–new blood so to speak.”

If elected to the board, Allegra said that she would focus on stemming declining enrollment in the district, by making “sure all our schools have a specialty.”

“I think the kids deserve the best education that we have to offer,” she said.

Puckett, candidate for the Newhall County Water board, is currently a Canyon County resident and engineer at Computer Science Corporation.

He said that although he has never run for public office before, he brings a wide range of skills to the table.

Puckett spent six years managing water distribution in Salem, Ore.

“I worked in the state of Oregon as a manager/supervisor for the city of Salem, Oregon’s Water Division, where I worked with water systems, water quality,” he said, “…I’ve got a very diverse background in water and wastewater, as well as engineering and management.”

Puckett has experience in the aerospace and broadcast industries and more than 20 years of management experience. He also is already involved in local issues.

“I’m also a member of the Canyon Country Advisory committee, …the California Water Environment Federation, also the Project Management Institute,” he said.

He sees a position on the Newhall County Water board as an opportunity to give back to the community.

“I look forward to serving the public and addressing issues that include water quality and infrastructure,” he said.
