The Texaco Country Showdown is the biggest annual country music talent search that gives country hopefuls an opportunity to gain exposure and stardom.

The contest starts off with local level competitions that are sponsored through local radio stations, including our very own KHTS AM 1220.  The local level preliminary finals were held at the Keyboard Galleria and Suzanne Harper, along with three other local preliminary winners, advanced to the local level  finals at Central Park during the Concerts at the Park series.

After winning the local finals at Central Park, Harper advanced to the California State Finals for the Texaco Country Showdown. After winning the California State Finals, Harper is expected to proceed to the regional finals level. She is expected to be competing in the west region finals, out of the five, which include southwest, southeast, midwest, northeast.

If Harper wins the regional finals, she is expected to succeed to the national, televised competition that will be hosted by country sensation and grammy-nominee Jewel. Previous local regional winners include Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley.

Last year’s winner of the Texaco Country Showdown,  Poor Man’s Poison, additionally sponsored by KHTS, advanced to the National Finals in Nashville, Tennessee at the historic Ryman Auditorium and won the entire competition, receiving $100,000 and the title “Best New Act in Country Music.”

“It’s great to be following in Poor Man’s Poison’s footsteps. They’ve been so encouraging through the whole process.” said Harper. “I’m so shocked that I’ve made it this far, but I’m so happy and thankful.”

Harper competed against nine country bands at the California State Finals of the Texaco Country Showdown  at Knott’s Berry Farm.

“It was stiff competition because all the musicians were so talented,” said Harper. “It was a privilege to perform with such outstanding acts.”

The cheeky songstress known for crafting spirited country song with a rock and roll edge hopes to achieve further success at the West Regional Finals in Oregon.

“It’s crazy that two consecutive musicians under KHTS’ sponsorship were met with success and I hope it continues,” said Harper.

The regional level finals of the Texaco Country Showdown is expected to take place November 9 in Florence, Oregon.
