GoAbout 20 kids from Sulphur Springs and Valley View Elementary competed in the third annual Go Tournament at Valley View Monday night.

Go is an ages old board game that originated in Asia and is still quite popular there, but it is largely unknown in the United States.

Proponents of the game praise both its simplicity and its complexity, as the rules are easy to learn, but the possibilities are endless.

The students at Sulphur Springs and Valley View have been learning the game from Joe Walters, the American Go Foundation’s 2012 Teacher of the Year.

Walters, whose grandson is a former Valley View student, visits each of the schools once a week during lunch to teach the kids how to play.
