There were several cases heard Monday at Los Angeles Superior Court in San Fernando that had direct ties to the Santa Clarita Valley.

The cases of Eric and Roger Yee, Raymundo Soto, Jerry Moon and three men charged with a Halloween murder were all in court, according to a spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office.

Diamonte Jerome McGhee, Branden Trevaughn Higgs and Eric Michael Edwards, who all turned 18 while in custody for the crime, are being tried as adults for the murder of one man and the attempted murder of another.

A preliminary hearing was rescheduled for Aug. 14.

The trial for those three is now expected to start in mid-September, according to deputy district attorney Brad Lieberman.
Alex Sanchez was killed and Ricardo Sandoval injured on Halloween in 2011, when the three suspects attempted to rob Sandoval and Sanchez, acting as a Good Samaritan, stepped in, according to law enforcement officials.

Jury selection began Monday in the case of Raymundo Soto, who is being charged with attempted murder.

Soto, 35, faces two felony counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon for an alleged stabbing incident on Feb. 29, 2012.

Daniel Muir returned to his Canyon Country home after a year’s absence to find that his wife, Jessica Jackson, 30, was now living in with Soto, according to a Sheriff’s Department officials.

While Muir was gathering his belongings, he was allegedly attacked by Soto with a knife. 

Muir suffered eight stab wounds but managed to escape and run to a neighbor’s home for help.

Jury selection will continue Tuesday.

Jerry Moon, who was sentenced to 43 years in state prison after he pleaded guilty to rape, was due in court for a restitution hearing, which was rescheduled for July 29.

Moon, 19, of Stevenson Ranch, was initially was charged with 17 felony counts, including attempted murder, forcible rape, false imprisonment by violence, first-degree residential robbery, first-degree burglary and multiple counts of sexual assault for his Jan. 8 assault.

Eric Yee and Roger Manfoo Yee are a father and son due in court Aug. 2 for a preliminary hearing.

Yee and his father pled not guilty on possession of illegal firearms.

At a hearing next month, a judge will decide whether there is enough evidence to hold the pair over for trial.

Eric Yee’s case drew national attention last year, when Yee was accused of making threats to local school children on an ESPN blog.
Saugus Union and Hart district officials asked for and received a permanent restraining order last year against Valencia High School grad Eric Yee.
