“I’m really pleased,” Siepel said. “I’ve been retired now a few years, but it’s nice to stay active working for the children and families.”
Some of the responsibilities of commission members include reviewing all programs administered by county departments, monitoring legislation and providing recommendations to department heads and the Board of Supervisors to improve children’s services.
“When i was working for the center, it was on the other side of the table,” she said. “We were contracted to provide services for children and families in Los Angeles County in this area. Now I’ll be more in an advisory capacity… I think it’s going to be exciting to come at it from this side of the table as far as hearing what kind of progress and developments are shaping in the different county departments.”

Originally named St. Stephen’s Special School, Seipel founded the SCV Child & Family Center with Katie Clarke and Carol Gelsinger in 1976 after recognizing the need for children’s mental health services in the Santa Clarita Valley, according to their website.
She retired from her position as the center’s CEO in 2008 after 32 years of service and currently serves on the center’s Auxiliary and Advisory Committee.
Seipel expects to begin her work with the county commission in September.
