“This is our eighth annual Day for Kids and it’s an opportunity for the community to come together and participate this event,” said Jim Ventress, chief professional officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley. “We always say, mother’s have a day, father’s have a day, even groundhog’s have a day, so why not have a day for kids.”
Several organizations from around the Santa Clarita Valley came to the event to provide free fun for kids of all ages.
“We have over 45 organizations here who are volunteering their time and efforts,” Ventress said. “We have talents who are working on shows such as Wizards of Waverly Place and Elite Dance group. There is a booth for the games.”
Kids were able to enjoy several types of food, face painting, petting zoos, and bounce houses.
“Our Parents Club is working at the hot dogs booth. We’ll probably give out about 3,000 hot dogs. Beverages are donated by Nestle and Coca Cola,” Ventress said. “The Y always comes through with different foods. Crossroads Church is handing out snow cones, Grace Baptist Church is handing out water.”
Shave It and Kona Ice also handed out shaved ice. Live music and raffle drawings took place on the main stage.
“We appreciate so many people coming together as a community,” he said. “If you look around, you can see that there are thousands of people here and I especially like that the parents don’t have to worry about going to their pocket for money.”
Several businesses sponsored this event, some included in the list are Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, Disney, Union Bank, Citibank, and Grace Baptist Church.
“This is what Santa Clarita is about. We are a family-oriented community and this is that type of activity where everyone can come and have a good time,” Ventress said. “An event where people don’t have to worry about paying for anything and they can just enjoy their family.”
