The woman was driving westbound on Valencia Boulevard around 6:30 a.m., when she crossed the center divider and crashed into a light pole, according to Marty Siebe, a Lebec resident who witnessed the crash.
“ I never saw her apply the brakes, and can only assume that she lost consciousness when she first began to drift,” Siebe said in an email statement to SCVTV.
Sheriff’s Station deputies were the first to arrive on scene, and smashed a passenger window in an attempt to help the woman who appeared to be trapped in her car.
“I couldn’t get the doors open as they were locked,” Siebe said. “I could not get her to respond.”
Sheriff’s Station officials did not release the victim’s name, which is Sheriff’s Department policy.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the crash, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.
Los Angeles County Fire Department officials rushed the woman to the hospital, where she was being treated for critical injuries.
A Sheriff’s Station official confirmed the woman is still alive Friday.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is still underway.
