A 57-year-old Santa Clarita resident became agitated after the testimony from an unidentified 41-year-old Santa Clarita woman around 7:30 p.m., according to a Sheriff’s Station report.

“We want to make sure that people know that their elected officials were not in any way involved in this incident,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The news release comes after rumors began to spread on social media networks and blogs that falsely implied a Santa Clarita City Council member was involved in a poking incident.

The person of interest allegedly confronted the victim, and was accused of poking her in the arm after her testimony on the location of a cellphone tower in Santa Clarita.

The victim then found a nearby Sheriff’s Station deputy who was stationed at the City Council meeting.

The incident did not involve a city of Santa Clarita official, a Santa Clarita City Council member, or anyone working for the city in any capacity, official or otherwise, according to a Sheriff’s Station news release.

Sheriff’s Station detectives will be presenting a case to the District Attorney’s Office at the conclusion of their investigation.

Prosecutors will then decide whether to press charges based on the evidence presented to them.

Sheriff’s Station deputies always provide security for Santa Clarita City Council meetings as part of its contract with the city of Santa Clarita.

It’s Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department policy not to release the names of the victims in any of its assault or battery cases while an investigation is ongoing.
