Santa Clarita Valley Family Of Water Suppliers Releases Quality Report

Members of the Santa Clarita Valley Family of Water Suppliers recently released the annual SCV 2013 Water Quality Report, required by the state Department of Public Health to assess how local water agencies are meeting state and federal drinking water standards.

In past years, the Water Quality Report was mailed to customers, but due to recent law changes and a desire to save money, the 2013 Water Quality Report is posted online and a notice of availability has been mailed to customers.

The assessment comes after a relatively dry winter, but according to the report, “the Santa Clarita Valley’s water supply remains sufficient to meet residents’ needs in 2013 due to proactive water resource planning and ongoing conservation efforts. And, thanks to ongoing monitoring and treatment, all of it will meet drinking water standards.”

Dan Masnada, general manager of the Castaic Lake Water Agency said that the SCV “has been in pretty good shape from a water supply standpoint this year.”

Problems would only arise if the SCV has another dry winter, he said.

He encouraged residents to use water wisely and with conservation in mind, whether we are experiencing a wet or dry season.

In addition to detailing the quality of local drinking water supplies, the annual report also explains the requirements and test results, including measurements for metals and minerals in the water.

Members of the SCV Family of Water Suppliers are the Castaic Lake Water Agency, Los Angeles County Waterworks District #36, Newhall County Water District, Santa Clarita Water Division and Valencia Water Company.

A copy of the report can be found on the Valencia Water Company’s website here, as well as any of the other suppliers’ websites listed above.

If you would like a paper copy of the report, contact your local water supplier.

Together with the suppliers, the City of Santa Clarita and Los Angeles County are members of the Santa Clarita Water Committee and are all committed to reducing water use in the valley in order to create a more sustainable environment for the future.
