The Santa Clarita Summer Concerts in the Park series is the perfect way to spend warm summer nights with family, friends, and neighbors at Central Park. Anyone can rock out and relax to some favorite music from the past. The Concerts in the Park series is presented by First Entertainment Credit Union and is a tradition headed by The City of Santa Clarita’s Arts and Events Office as well as the support of local sponsors.
“It has become synonymous with summertime in Santa Clarita,” said Mike Fleming, City of Santa Clarita Arts and Events Supervisor.
Santa Clarita is entering its 24th annual Concerts in the Park series.

“Shortly after incorporation we began hosting the events, which combine free, family-friendly entertainment in a beautiful park setting showcasing the very best of our community,” according the Mike Fleming.
He also added that for convenience food will also be available at the events this year. These food venders include Whole Foods, Schreiner’s Fine Sausages and Our Place BBQ for the first four concerts and Soul Food, Persia Cuisine, Louisiana Charlie’s and Chick-fil-A for the final four.
Last year, KHTS sponsored the band Poor Man’s Poison who competed in local and state competitions before moving on to the national competition, at the Texaco Country Showdown. KHTS, will again be sponsoring another band this year, which will be selected among their three finalists at the July 13th Concerts In The Park. Last year’s winner, Poor Man’s Poison won the national finals in Nashville earlier this year, including a $100,000.00 prize and the title, “Best New Act in Country Music.” They will be back in Santa Clarita as the headline performer at the July 13th Concerts In The Park.
Last weekend, KHTS held their preliminary round for the July 13th concert at Keyboard Galleria. The top three performers were Bourbon County, Marie Wise-Hawkins & Band, and Suzanne Harper. They will compete again at the July 13th concerts in the park. The winner will move on to the State finals at Knott’s Berry Farm.
Dennis Weber, owner of KGMC and one of the judges, said that, “the finalists are chosen based on their showmanship, individual style, likeability as an artist, and overall performance. Keyboard Galleria Music Center and its judges will select the winner that evening from the semi-finalists.”
The winner will be sponsored by KHTS AM-1220 and will move on to state and regional competitions.

Queen Nation is a tribute band to the legendary rock band, Queen, known for their lead vocalist Freddie Mercury. The band Queen Nation formed in 2004 and has taken on the persona of Queen. Joe Retta and Gregory Finsley lead the group with vocals and piano similar to Freddie Mercury. Mike McManus plays guitar, Peter Burke plays the drums, and Parker Combs is on the bass. They pay tribute to vintage Queen as they perform a 90-minute production of Queen’s greatest hits and preserve the image, sound, and stage persona of the original group.
Poor Man’s Poison got their start locally. Coming from Hanford, California the group was sponsored by KHTS AM-1220 and performed last summer at Concerts in the Park to qualify for the Texaco Country Showdown. After winning the round in Santa Clarita, they competed at the California regional finals and state finals, landing them a trip to Nashville as one of the top five final bands to compete at the Texaco Country Showdown. There they competed for the title, “Best New Act in Country Music” making them contenders for the prize of $100,000. They won the national competition and are set to perform their Folk, Americana, Country, and Rock music at Concerts in the Park this summer.
Bostyx pays tribute to classic American rock artists Boston and Styx and features guitarist/ vocalist David Victor from the multi-platinum band Boston. Bostyx recreates the music of Boston and Styx including guitar harmonies and lightning-fast keyboard runs from Boston and the lush vocals and theatrical style of Styx. They perform the greatest hits of Boston and Styx.
Platinum Groove is a high-energy variety dance band. Founded in the summer of 2000 by David Michael Hewitt Enterprises, the goal was to create a youthful, energetic band that brought variety to the stage opposed to the normal casual bands sent out by agencies for events. All members are handpicked and have a broad background in musical genres and choreography. Being a talented group of performers, they incorporate all types of music including Motown, Top 40, Disco, Current Dance, Swing, Big Band, Latin Pop, Cocktail Jazz Standards, R&B, and Oldies.
Incendio started in 1999 in Los Angeles and has grown to form their own style in music. They are an instrumental music-driven band that has managed to make their mark in the seemingly pop-based music market of today. The Latin guitar world fusion music ground reaches uncharted artistic levels as they balance rock-style and enthusiasm with technical and improvisational sophistication gaining respect from not only the audience, but other musicians as well. Their diverse musical influence comes from flamenco, classic guitar, Silician ancestry, Peruvian heritage, European travels, and music collaborations. Incendio’s distinct style has built their reputation as a successful Latin-Guitar-World group.
Boogie Knights is known as “the greatest disco revival show in the world.” Founded in 1992 they have been playing across the country bringing choreography, polyester, Afros, bell-bottoms, and crazy humor to the stage with each performance. They are sure to bring the vibe of the seventies back.
Lisa Haley and the Zydecats are celebrating 18 years as a band and are committed to honoring their Grammy nomination in their music of Americana, Cajun, and Zydeco. The band is headed by Lisa Haley who covers the vocals while playing the violin, viola, mandolin, Cajun accordion, and the jawharp. Gigi “Gee” Rabe, Andy Anders, and Chris Ross make up the Zydecats playing the accordion, bass, drums, and percussion, along with vocals. Lisa Haley attracts fans around the world with her neo-zydeco tunes and hypnotic ballads that include a little bit of Jazz, Folk, Rock, and Blues.

The Spazmatics started in the spring of 1983 when physics professor Kevin Stigwood of Alta Dena High School in Thousand Oaks, California lost a debate over String Theory to a student. The loser would have to do whatever the winner demanded. He was told he had to perform during half time at the upcoming state basketball championship game. Not wanting to completely fail he had the help of electronics teacher Sydney Balderman who invented the “robot drums. The two of them plus Stigwood’s special needs brother, Curtis, on bass and teacher’s assistant Rusty A. Woosmeir on guitar formed the Spazmatics. They are known for their 80’s nerd rock as they perform songs by Oingo Boingo, Duran Duran, Thomas Dolby, Billy Idol and others.
Be sure to bring a blanket, food, and beverage, but no alcohol, as this is a family friendly area.
