From 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., caregivers had the opportunity to listen to several speakers, including a panel discussion with information about caregiving options and resources.

Dr. Samuel Kojoglanian, cardiologist and medical director of Mender of Hearts, spoke about “Keeping Healthy and Finding Abundant Life,” how caregivers can better care for their senior patients while not neglecting their own personal needs. He referenced the Bible and the idea of taking one day out of every week to rest.

Without adequate rest, caregivers cannot be happy or capable of helping others, according to Kojoglanian.

SCV Senior Center Executive Director Rachelle Dardeau also gave advice on “The Keys to Being a Better Caregiver.”

“The SCV Senior Center has hosted this day for years. It's an incredibly important event so caregivers don't feel alone,” Dardeau said. “It's an opportunity for them to get information about resources and how to ease the burden of being a caregiver.”

In addition, attendees enjoyed a complimentary continental breakfast and an opportunity for Kojoglanian to sign his latest book: "I've Got a Big But(t): Dr. Sam's Surefire Way to Lose Weight, Keep Healthy and Find Abundant Life."

Senior Center employee SuzAnn Nelsen said that it was “a wonderful event to provide resources for caregivers in the community. People will leave feeling better and better equipped than when they arrived.”
