Santa Clarita Public Library is offering a series of free college preparation classes for teens at Valencia, Canyon Country and Old Town Newhall branches starting Sept. 23.

There will be four workshops, each of which will provide information on different college preparation aspects for students and parents who attend.
The workshops include:

College 101: Sept. 23 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Old Town Newhall Library: This program will cover an overview of the University of California and California State systems and provide information on the pros and cons of attending a private university. The program will also discuss the differences between the SAT and ACT tests and review the college application process. The meeting will be presented by Pegasus2edu.

College Prep Online: Sept. 25 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Valencia Library: The goal of this program is to educate attendees about college prep tools and databases offered at the library, including tutoring online, SAT and ACT practice tests and scholarship searches. This program will be led by library staff.

Application Essay Workshop: Oct. 10 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Valencia Library: This workshop will offer free help with college application essays and will review the overall application process. The workshop will be presented by Kaplan. Prior registration is required for this workshop.

ACT/SAT Practice Test: Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Canyon Country Library: This workshop will consist of a four-hour test for students who want to practice their testing skills. A follow-up program offering individualized advice and tactics for students based on their test results will take place Nov. 20 at 6:45 p.m. The workshop will be hosted by Kaplan. Prior registration is required for this workshop.
