Santa Clarita Planning Commission To Hold Billboard Public Hearing Tuesday

The Santa Clarita Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing regarding the removal of outdoor billboards along local railroad tracks on Tuesday.

Metro has proposed removing 118 billboards in the Santa Clarita Valley in exchange for three digital billboards along Interstate 5 and State Route 14.

Metro currently owns the land that houses 62 structures with 118 billboard faces along the railroad right-of-way, primarily along Soledad Canyon Road and Railroad Avenue.

The proposal has been in negotiations for two – three years, according to Tom Cole, director of community development for the city.

This is the first of three public hearings, the second two will be held by City Council.

If approved by the council, an environmental review and design plan would have to be developed.
