ImageThe artwork should celebrate the Valencia Public Library,  compliment the City of Santa Clarita’s aesthetic style and spirit, and fit the context of its surrounding area. The design must fall under the thematic symbols that the Valencia Public Library represents: community, vibrancy, education, exploration, technology, history, and fun.

Additionally, the art design should transform the way individuals experience the Valencia Public Library.

“The new outdoor artwork will be on display in a highly visible area and is an opportunity for artists to inspire library visitors to imagine, dream and discover something new at the Santa Clarita Public Library,” said Mayor Bob Kellar.

Artists are encouraged to push the boundaries and refrain from using trite ideas typically correlated with libraries.  It must be fabricated in a durable, low maintenance material that will withstand the heat and other elements of Santa Clarita, according to a statement provided by the City of Santa Clarita.

“The art piece will help to reinforce and celebrate the idea that libraries are a vibrant place. The Artist Selection Committee felt very strongly that the art piece should represent today’s library,” said Jeff Barber, City of Santa Clarita’s Arts and Events Supervisor.

“This will be the first piece of art at the Valencia Public Library,” according to his statement.

Interested artists can submit a design and materials to CallForEntry.org. Applications must include a letter explaining the artist’s interest in the project, a current resume of the artist and/or each team member, and three examples of past work.

The deadline for interested artists is Friday, August 9.
