Concerts in the Park
Concerts In The Park & KHTS Sponsored Country Showdown

When:  Saturdays through August 30, concerts begin at 7pm
Where:  Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Concerts in the Park.  Concerts in the Park is a free concert series that invites family, friends and neighbors to join in the fun.  This week’s concert features “Suzanne Harper,” second place winner of last year’s Texaco Country Showdown.  Suzanne was the KHTS local entry in the Country Showdown competition.  She won locally then went on to win the State and Regional contests.  In the National competition, Suzanne came in second in a field of more than 25,000 nationwide competitors.  This weekend, Concerts in the Park is hosting the KHTS final local competition to Country Showdown.  There are three finalist and the winning group will go to State competition.  Read more about this year’s local KHTS competitors in an article on the KHTS website: Santa Clarita Bands To Move On To Second Round Of Country Showdown.  Read more about Concerts In The Park in an article on the KHTS website: Santa Clarita Concerts In The Park Is Gearing Up For A Great Summer.  More information on Concerts in the Park, including the top questions asked, is available online

CLWA Bay Delta Plan Symposium

When:  Friday, July 18 from 8am-10am
Where:  College of the Canyons Valencia Campus, Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, Room 258, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia
Details:  Castaic Lake Water Agency (CLWA)  is hosting a “Bay Delta Plan Symposium.”  Half of the water in the Santa Clarita Valley flows through the Delta.  The symposium will be led by Curt Schmutte, a Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay Delta expert.  Schmutte will discuss the ‘threats the Delta is facing and how the Castaic Lake Water Agency is helping ensure a reliable water supply for the Santa Clarita Valley, today, tomorrow and the future by supporting the Bay Delta Conservation Plan (BDCP).”  Read more on the symposium in an article on the KHTS website: Bay Delta Expert To Give Presentation At College Of The Canyons.

Valencia Jazz And Blues Concert Series  Valencia Jazz And Blues Concert Series Features The Tim Nolan Band

When:   Friday, June 27 from 7-9:30pm
Where:  On Town Center Drive (at McBean Parkway) next to the Hyatt Regency Valencia

LA SummerFest Presents CabaretLA SummerFest “Cabaret”

When:  Saturday, July 12; Sunday, July 13; Sunday, August 3; and Sunday, August 10 – gates open at 6pm, performances begin at 7:30pm
Where:  Rivendale Park in Towsley Canyon, 24255 The Old Road, Newhall Details:  Gather up the family, prepare a picnic dinner, grab blankets and chairs for LA SummerFest’s production of “Cabaret.” “Experience the joy, fear, romance, and heartbreak of 1930 Berlin in this ‘hauntingly addictive’ production.”   LA SummerFest is a series of cultural festivals: free concerts, Shakespeare, opera, praise music, and the SCV Concert Band.  Admission is free for this evening under the stars.  Wine and beer will be available at these performances.   More information and directions is available online.   

Valley Performing Arts Center "Jewel"

The "Jewel" concert was cancelled.  New performance dates have not been selected.  Official statement:  Jewel’s manager regretfully sends this message to her fans: "Due to a recent back injury, Jewel will unfortunately have to postpone her upcoming tour dates. The singer will reschedule her upcoming California shows that were planned for July 17, 18, 19 and 20, at a later date. Refunds for ticket holders will be available at point of purchase. Castaic Lake Water Agency “Dare To Dream”

Where:  Castaic Lake Water Agency, 27234 Bouquet Canyon Road, above Central Park

Rancho Camulos “Ramblings At The Rancho: The Victorian Strip”

When:  Saturday, July 19 starting at noon
Where:  RanchoCamulosMuseum, 10 miles west on Highway 126 from the I-5, 5164 E. Telegraph Road, Piru
Details:  Rancho Camulos “Ramblings At The Rancho” presents “The Victorian Strip.”  “Come to the air-conditioned Rancho Camulos schoolhouse for some racy edu-tainment.  Ever wonder what those Victorian ladies wore under those fancy gowns?”  You can find out at Rancho Camulos.  Suggested donation is $5 and includes a docent-led historic tour.  Reservations are not required but are appreciated.  Reservations can be made by calling 805-521-1501.  More information and specific directions are available online.

City of Santa Clarita “SENSES”

Where:  Main Street between Market Street and 6th Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita holds “Senses” every third Thursday. The SENSES block party is designed to heighten your sense of sight, smell, touch, taste and sound.  This week SENSES theme is Rockabilly.  Expect “traditional style hot rods, rockabilly music, and pin-up girls.”  Food trucks will be serving up a variety of items.  More information is available online.  

City Of Santa Clarita “Let’s Go To The Beach”

When:  now through Sunday, August 31
Where:  various locations throughout Santa Clarita
Details:  Grab your towel and sunscreen and haad out to Santa Monica Beach, the easy way.  The City of Santa Clarita is again offering rides on air-conditioned commuter express buses.  Travelers can bring their beach chair, coolers and even surfboards.  Summer Beach Bus fares are $3 each way for children and adults, and $1.50 each way for Seniors and persons with disabilities.  Exact cash fares or TAP stored value only – no monthly passes accepted.  Those under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult.  Unaccompanied minors must bring valid school identification.  More information on routes and pickup locations, RSVP for large groups, bus etiquette, and more is available by calling 661-294-1BUS or online

Canyon Theatre Guild “Summer Youth Workshops”

CTG Juniors is for ages 10-13.  
The CTG Juniors will work on “The Magical Land of Oz.”

These workshops are limited to 25 students.

Ekata Training CenterEkata Training Center

Details:  Ekata’s mission is to fuse ancient tradition with science and technology.  Ekata is a family experience.  There are programs for Little Pandas ages 3-5 years, through the 13-16 teen Bridge Program, to Adult Curriculum.  At Ekata, it isn’t all about the workout, but also about massage, acupuncture, physical therapy, and nutrition and herbology.  There is even a childcare center that takes care of the little ones while Mom gets a massage, takes a yoga class, or just sits down to have a hot tea and read a magazine.  More information is available by calling 661-255-1114 or online.

Ice Station Valencia “Summer Camp”

Details:  Ice Station Valencia has “Kidtastic Summer Camp, the coolest camp in town.”  Campers can attend full-day, half-day morning, and half-day afternoon sessions.  They will participate in fun and age appropriate crafts and games, with special events including Play In Snow and Broomball.  They will also get an introduction to Broomball, Speed Skating, Curling, and Hockey.  Every Friday, campers participate in the Ice Station Valencia Winter Olympic Games with fun relays and contests.  For an ice skating outing, consider the KHTS Restaurant Row program for half-price admission certificates.   Certificates are available online or at KTHS, 27225 CampPlenty, Ste 8 – at SoledadCanyon.     More information is available by calling 661-755-8686 or online.

MB2 Raceway

Where:  MB2 Raceway. 13943 Balboa Boulevard, Sylmar

Details:  The 7th Annual Citrus Classic Balloon Festival gives us over 30 hot air balloons and fun activities for all ages.  The Festival includes: tethered balloon rides, free train rides, skydivers & stunt planes, Evening Balloon Glows, Sunset Wine Dinner,  Craft Beer Dinner, car show, live entertainment, AfterGlow Party, Tasting Pavilions, and more.
