Celebrity Waiter Dinner & Auction

When:  Saturday, February 22 with registration starting at 4:30pm
Where:  Hyatt Regency Valencia, 24500 Town Center Drive
Details:  This year’s Celebrity Waiter Dinner takes us on a “Journey Through Television.”  The fun-filled evening will feature live music and entertainment, dancing, and a live auction.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website: Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center To Host Celebrity Waiter Dinner, Auction.  The auction will have a variety of items including unique trips and social events.  The Celebrity Waiter Dinner & Auction is the top fundraising event for the SCV Senior Center.  Tickets are $100 each.  More information and reservations are available by calling 661-259-9444 or online.  

Providence Holy Cross Blood Drive At Bowman High

Bridge To Home “Souls Of Hope” ProjectSouls Of Hope Project

When:  February 22 through March 5, hours listed below
Where:  Valencia Library, 23743 W. Valencia Boulevard, at Magic Mountain Parkway
Details:  Bridge to Home will be hosting a “Souls of Hope” project on display at the Valencia Library.  Bridge to Home is commonly known as the Santa Clarita Valley Winter/Emergency Shelter.  Bridge to Home has been offering a safe shelter where people receive a meal, a bed, showers, medical care, and job resources.  Local Photographer and Arts Commissioner Gary Choppe will be presenting images and video taken of Bridge to Home clients.  The exhibit is entitled “Souls of Hope” because of the “optimism displayed by the clients Choppe interviewed and photographed.”  The exhibit is free and open to the public.  Exhibition hours: 10am-9pm Monday through Thursday, 10am-6pm on Friday, 10am-5pm on Saturday, and 1pm-5pm on Sunday.  Donations will be accepted at the exhibit.  More information on Bridge to Home and a list of shelter’s current needs is available online.   

Canyon Theatre Guild “The Hobbit” 

When:  Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm: February 22 and March 1;  Sundays at 6pm: February 23;  Friday at 8pm: February 28
Where:  Canyon Theatre Guild, 24242 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic tale of Middle Earth is at Canyon Theatre Guild with performances of “The Hobbit.”  The play tells the story of Bilbo Baggins and a band of dwarves as they go on a remarkable journey encountering wizards, trolls, elves and a dragon.  Tickets are $12/$15 for juniors/seniors and $15/$17 for adults.  More information on the play and tickets are available by calling 661-799-2702 or online.

Canyon Theatre Guild “The Dixie Swim Club”

When:  Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm on: February 21, 22, and March 1; Sundays at 2pm on: February 23
Where:  Canyon Theatre Guild, 24342 Main Street in Old Town Newhall
Details:  Canyon Theatre Guild has the new comedy “The Dixie Swim Club.”  The story is about five Southern women that met on their college swim team.  They meet for one weekend every August to catch up on each other’s lives.  “As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges that life flings at them.”  “The Dixie Swim Club is the story of these unforgettable women-a hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever.”  Hear a KHTS Friday Matinee podcast interview with some of the stars of “The Dixie Swim Club” during an appearance on January 17.   Tickets are $12 to $15 for juniors/seniors and $15 to $17 for adults.  Tickets are available by calling 661-799-2702.  More information is available online.

Details:  “Happily Ever After: A Cinderella Tale” at Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center is part of the Young at Heart Series.  “Based on the beloved classic tale of Cinderella, Happily Ever After takes us on a timeless journey of transformation filled with inner beauty, courage, kindness and triumph over greed, arrogance and bullying behavior.”  Tickets are $15/$12/$10.  More information and tickets are available by calling 661-362-5304 or online.  

Lancaster Performing Arts Center “Our Town”

Habitat Hearts for Heroes Builder’s Ball 

When:  Friday, February 21 at 6pm
Where:  Universal Sheraton Hotel, 333 Universal Hollywood Drive, Universal City
Details:  The Habitat Hearts For Heroes Builder’s Ball is a night to “trade in a tool belt and hard hat for a little glitz and glamour.”  The Builder’s Ball raises funds for the Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV housing programs and helps promote awareness.  The night will feature veteran families who will soon be moving into their own Habitat homes.  More information and tickets are available online.  

Special Olympics Polar Plunge

When:  Saturday, February 22, registration begins at 8:30am
Where:  Castaic Lake Lower Lake, 32132 Castaic Lake Drive, Castaic
Details:  The Special Olympics Santa Clarita Valley & Tri-Valley is holding their Special Olympics Polar Plunge.  Participants are divided into Plungers who will dive into the cold winter lake and Too Chick To Plunge who will watch.  There are also under age 12 categories.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website: Santa Clarita To Host Polar Plunge For Special Olympics.  Participants are asked to raise a minimum  of $50 for Special Olympics.  More information and registration is available online.  

Vibe Performing Arts “How To Work With A Band”

When:  Sunday, February 23 from 3-5pm
Where:  Vibe Performing Arts Studios, 24460-1/4 Lyons Avenue, near the I-5 Freeway
Details:  Andrea Vibe owner of Vibe Performing Arts Studios knows what it takes to be part of a band.  The Vibe workshop “How to Work With a Band” will show you the techniques and tricks to work with a live band.  Singers and instrumentalist will learn tools to communicate effectively with other musicians and how to “Play the Game.”  Tickets are $25.  Register by calling 661-255-7464. 

Mardi Gras Madness 5K

When:  Saturday, February 22 at 8am
Where:  Bridgeport Marketplace on Newhall Ranch Road between Grandview and McBean Parkway
Details:  This year marks the seventh year of Mardi Gras Madness.  Sign-up for the 5K, Mini Madness 1K, and Mega Madness.  Madness events benefit SOAR Students Off and Running.  Participants of the 5K will receive finisher’s medals.  There will be prizes for the best dressed Mardi Gras themed participants.  There will be a Vendor Village area.  SOAR provides fully supported LA Marathon training to Santa Clarita Valley youth in need.  Be part of the Mardi Gras Madness by calling Santa Clarita Running Company 661-253-2786 or online

Congressional Art Competition

Details:  The Congressional Art Competition is now accepting artwork submissions.  The competition is open to all high school students within the California 25th District represented by Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon.  Read more about the competition, criteria, submission locations and past winners in an article on the KHTS website: Congressional Art Competition Accepting Submissions Until April 21. The judging ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30 at 4pm at FastFrame Valencia.  

SCV Youth Project “Sweet Charity Cake Auction” 

When:  Saturday, March 8 at 6pm
Where:  Valencia Country Club, 27330 North Tourney Road, Valencia
Details:  Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project is hosting their sixth annual “Sweet Charity Cake Auction.”  This year’s theme is “Community.”  Highly imaginative are elaborately decorated cakes are combined with prize packages then auctioned.  Cakes are awarded prizes in several categories.  Read more in an article on KHTS:  Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project Gears Up For 6th Annual Cake Auction.  Cake entry fees are $25.  Tickets to the event are $45.  More information, registration and tickets are available online

Santa Clarita Elks & Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers “Bob Kellar Roast”

When:  Saturday, March 8 at 6pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Elks Lodge, 17766 Sierra Highway, Canyon Country
