SCVi Charter School “Civil War” Living History

When: Thursday, May 22 from 10am-2pm
Where:  Rancho Camulos Museum, 5164 East Telegraph – 10 miles West on Highway 126 from the I-5
Details: SCVi Charter School transforms into living history for a day of bringing history to life.  This year the 8th grade learners/students are living the Civil War era, complete with clothing, heroes, and battles.  The day includes: Civil War cotillion and Living History encampments, Civil War inventions, the President of the Union, and shopping for homemade goods at the Sutler.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website: SCVi To Host Civil War Reenactment At Rancho Camulos.  There is a $5 donation to enter Rancho Camulos Museum.    

College Of The Canyons Dance “Celebration Of Dance”

When:  8pm performances on : Wednesday, May 21; Thursday, May 22; and Friday, May 23
Where: College of the Canyons Valencia Campus, Black Box Theater, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia
Details:  College of the Canyon Dance is performing three evenings of “Celebration of Dance.”  They will have a range of dance styles presented by faculty, students and guest artists.  Tickets are $10/$5.  More information and tickets are available by calling 661-362-5304 or online

Memorial Day Tribute “Honoring Old Glory” 

When:  Monday, May 26 starting at 10am
Where:  Eternal Valley, 23287 North Sierra Highway, Newhall
Details:  This year’s Memorial Day Tribute has the theme “Honoring Old Glory.”  The SCV Concert Band and Master Chorale will perform.  Duane Harte, QMCS, USNR (Ret) will be Master of Ceremonies. The Condor Squadron will do a flyover.  Bring chairs, blankets, sunscreen and hats.

PFLAG SCV “Give ‘Em Hope” Barbeque

When:  Saturday, May 24 from 2-6pm
Where:  Richard Rioux Park, 26233 Falkner, Stevenson Ranch
Details:  Join the PFLAG SCV and the Gay Straight Alliances from the Hart District and College of the Canyons for the first “Give ‘Em Hope” Barbeque in celebration of LGBT families, friends, and neighbors honoring Harvey Milk Day.  This is event is open to everyone.  Enjoy a day of food and fun while taking a stand against bullying, intolerance, and discrimination.  Tickets are $5 in advance.  More information and tickets are available online.

Canyon Theatre Guild "Singing In The Rain"

When:  8pm Fridays: May 30, June 6, 13, 20, 27;  8pm on Saturdays: May 31, June 7, 14, 21, and 28;  2pm Saturdays: June 14 and 22;  2pm Sundays: May 25, June 1, 8, 15 and 22
Where:  Canyon Theatre Guild, 24242 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  Canyon Theatre Guild has the classic musical “Singing In The Rain.”  “Based on the classic Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film, Singing In The Rain has been faithfully adapted from the movie.  Each unforgettable scene, song and dance, is accounted for, including the show stopping title number, complete with an onstage rainstorm!”  “You remember the plot.  You love the characters.  You know ‘the song.”  Tickets are $15-17 for juniors/seniors and $17-$19 for adults.  For tickets call 661-799-2702.  More information is available online.   

Kern County Raceway Park 

When:  Saturday, May 24, grandstand gates open at 3:30pm; first races at 5:30pm
Where:  Kern County Raceway Park, 13500 Raceway Boulevard – right off the I-5 in Bakersfield

Jack’s Angels “Powderpuff Football” 

When:  Friday, May 23 at 6pm
Where:  Vasquez High School, Jorgenson Field – 14 Freeway at Red Rover Mine Road, Acton
Details: Come be part of the Second Annual “Powderpuff Football” game for Jack’s Angels.  It will be the Angels versus the Saints.  There will be a half-time show including the Jock Cheer section and the “First Ever” Angel Awards for Volunteers of the Year 2013.  Proceeds benefit the Jack’s Angels Foundation and their fight against DIPG – pediatric brain cancer.  DIPG is responsible for 80& of pediatric brain tumor deaths annually.  Learn more about the Powderpuff Football game, Jack, and Jack’s Angel Foundation online

Santa Clarita Ballet “Snow White”

Water Safety Expo “Children Drown Without A Sound”

When:  Saturday, May 31 from 10am-2pm
Where:  Fire Station 126, 26320 Citrus Street, Valencia - between Valencia Boulevard and Magic Mountain Parkway
Details:  The simplest reason to attend the Water Safety Expo is:  “Children Drown Without a Sound.”  Drowning is still the leading cause of deaths in children under four years of age.  This free event includes informative workshops and fun activities for the entire family.  There will be demonstrations, games, food trucks, giveaways and interactive activities.  There will be paramedic pool rescue demonstrations, presentations from ER physicians and an opportunity to sign up for swim lessons and CPR.  This safety event is sponsored by L.A. County Fire Department, City of Santa Clarita, and Academy Swim Club, and others.   

GraceFest SCV 

When:  Saturday, May 31 from 1-9pm, gates open at noon
Where:  Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus
Details:  The First Annual GraceFest SCV is the Santa Clarita Valley’s premier music and message festival.  GraceFest SCV will feature Building 429 with songs from their new album “Listen to the Sound.” Other bands in the line up: Worship Jam, Matterband, Truth Jones, Imagine Tomorrow, and Andy Gregory.  The festival will also include: children’s play area, prayer tent, and food & vendor booths. Carry-in food and coolers are permitted but not alcoholic drinks.  Blankets, beach chairs and beach umbrellas are welcome, though the umbrellas must be down by 5pm.  Pets and smoking will not be permitted.  Tickets are available through KHTS.  Adult tickets through KHTS are valued at $20 and sold for $15. Children's tickets are for ages 11-19 years and are $10 each.  Come to the KHTS studios at 27225 Camp Plenty, Suite 8, at the intersection of Camp Plenty and Soledad Canyon Road or purchase online (online orders have a $2.50 fee for entire order; orders paid for online can be mailed).  Kid’s Charities of the SCV will benefit from GraceFest SCV with financial support and scholarships for local youth programs and schools.  More information is available online.  

Country Showdown – 33rd Annual

Where: KHTS AM-1220, 27225 Camp Plenty Road, Suite 8, Canyon Country – Camp Plenty at Soledad Canyon
Details:  Enter the 33rd Annual Country Showdown with KHTS AM-1220.  Local radio stations throughout the United States give upcoming artists a way to win the Country Showdown.  GarthBrooks, Martina McBride, LeAnn Rimes, Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert and Brad Paisley are a few of the many talented performers that have competed in Country Showdown.  There is a Grand Prize of $100,000 and cash prizes at various levels.  Country Showdown is the biggest competition in country music. Enter by coming into the KHTS studios for an application form.  Or you can request an application by emailing info@hometownstation.com  Country Showdown is a series of competitions on several levels:  Local, State, Regional, and National.  In 2012, Poor Man’s Poison won the National competition and the band was a KHTS contestant.  In 2013, Suzanne Harper was a National competitor and was a KHTS contestant.  Read more on the KHTS website:  Poor Man’s Poison Wins Texaco Country Showdown In Nashville and Texaco Country Showdown Winner Crystal Yates Named At Thursday’s Final.  The KHTS local competition involves a semi-final that pares down the field to three competitors.  The final local competition happens at the last City of Santa Clarita’s Concerts In The Park of the summer.  More information is available by calling KHTS at 661-298-1220 or online with Country Showdown.
