Top Of The Line Tax “Tax Help Day”

When:  Friday, March 7 from 1-5pm
Where:  SCV Chamber of Commerce, 27451 Tourney Road, Ste 160 – between Magic Mountain Parkway and Valencia Boulevard
Details:  Top Of The Line Tax can get all your tax questions answered.  Top Of The Line is holding a free of charge event with Enrolled Agents.  Enrolled Agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards.  These tax experts will be answering questions not preparing tax return, so there will be no billing for any work.  This free event is a “public service by the California Society of Enrolled Agents (CSEA), a professional association dedicated to serving taxpayers in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment with integrity and trust.”  For more information call 1-800-TAXPRO-5.  Learn more about Top Of The Line Tax online.

Valencia United Methodist “Wampler’s Ascent”

When:  Sunday, March 9 at 4pm
Where:  Valencia United Methodist Church, 25718 McBean Parkway – across from Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital
Details:  There will be a free movie screening of “Wampler’s Ascent” at Valencia United Methodist.  “Wampler’s Ascent” is a winner of 48 festival awards.  The movie “documents Steve Wampler as he attempts to become the first person with a disability to climb the biggest rock face in the world, El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.”  Steve Wampler’s intent was to bring awareness to a summer camp for children with disabilities.  The ultimate mission became a “remarkable love story that awakens the potential in all of us.”  Steve Wampler will be in attendance and will take part in a question/answer session after the screening.  Learn more about the screening online with Valencia United Methodist or directly on the Wampler’s Ascent website.

Become A Foster Or Adoptive Parent

Become A Foster Or Adoptive Parent

When:  March 8 from noon-2pm
Where:  Westfield Valencia Town Center, JCPenney Center Court
Details:  KHTS will be broadcasting live “Become a Foster or Adoptive Parent,” a presentation sponsored by Los Angeles County Department of Children & Family Services.  The website is Share Your Heart LA – an apt description of what is needed for so many children in Los Angeles County.  And Santa Clarita families may be the answer.  Come hear what the difference is between an adoptive and foster parent, who can become a foster or adoptive parent, who the children are that need permanent or temporary homes, and all the responsibilities come with sharing your heart.  Currently there is a display of the children waiting to be adopted in the “Beautiful Heart Gallery” in the JCPenney Center Court.  The photo gallery will be on display through March 15.  More information is available by calling 888-811-1121 or online

SCV Youth Project “Sweet Charity Cake Auction”

When:  Saturday, March 8 at 6pm
Where:  Valencia Country Club, 27330 North Tourney Road, ValenciaDetails:  Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project is hosting their sixth annual “Sweet Charity Cake Auction.”  This year’s theme is “Community.”  Highly imaginative are elaborately decorated cakes are combined with prize packages then auctioned.  Cakes are awarded prizes in several categories.  Read more in an article on KHTS:  Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project Gears Up For 6th Annual Cake Auction.  Cake entry fees are $25.  Tickets to the event are $45.  More information, registration and tickets are available online

Canyon Country Optimists “Quarter Auction”

When:  Saturday, March 8 at 5pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Sports Complex, 20870 Centre Pointe Parkway – at Golden Valley Parkway
Details:  Canyon Country Optimist Club is holding their Fourth Annual Quarter Auction.  Although “Quarter Auction” may defy explanation, the event has the opportunity to win one or more of 100 decorated baskets and other live, silent and ticket auction prizes.  Larger prize packages include bicycles, L.A. Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers & Santa Clarita Elks “Bob Kellar Roast” 

When:  Saturday, March 8 at 6pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Elks Lodge, 17766 Sierra Highway, Canyon Country

Vibe Performing Arts Studios Karaoke Coaching & Open Mic Jam

When:  Friday, March 7 from 6:30-9:30pm

Justin Time Children’s House “Getting Along With Grief”

When:  Monday, March 10 from 7-8:30pm
Where:  Barnabas House, 24417 Chestnut Street, Newhall

St. Clare Lenten Fish Fry

When:  Fridays from 4:30-8pm from March 7 through April 11
Where:  Saint Clare of Assisi, 19606 Calla Way, Canyon Country
Details:  Lent is here and St. Clare’s is again holding their Lenten Fish Fry.  The dinners include beer battered Alaska cod, French fries or rice pilaf, coleslaw, rolls, and coffee, tea or milk.  Desserts are available for purchase at the Bake Sale table.  Other beverages are available for purchase.  A two-piece dinner is $9 and three-piece for $10.  Meals are dine-in or take-out.  Proceeds benefit the needy in Santa Clarita. 

City Of Santa Clarita Art SLAM “Fem SLAM”

When:  Thursday, March 6 from 7-10pm
Where:  Main Street, Old Town Newhall

SCAA “Boots, Spurs and Brushes” Exhibit & Reception 

When:  Friday, March 7 from 6-9pm
Where:  24251 Town Center Drive #155 – near Pottery Barn
Details:  The Santa Clarita Artists Association “Boots, Spurs & Brushes” Exhibit and Reception will feature prints, jewelry, and a wide-variety of art by local artists.  The exhibit is meant to coincide with the Cowboy Festival featuring Western art, cowboys and horses.  The reception is free and open to the public.  “Artists will be demonstrating, musicians will be serenading and wine and edibles will be enjoyed by all.”  The exhibit will run through April 27.  Learn more online.   

Pop-Up Adventure Play Workers

When:  Saturday, March 8 from 9am-noon for workshop for professional educators and 1-5pm for pop-up play; Sunday, March 9 from 9am-noon for workshop for general public and 1-5pm for pop-up play
Where:  A Little Patch of Earth Preschool, 24436 Valley Street, Newhall
Details:  Pop-Up Adventure Play Workers will be at A Little Patch Of Earth preschool. City Of Santa Clarita “BE SAFE The Movie”

When: Monday, March 10 from 6:30-8:30pm
Where:  Valencia Public Library, 23743 Valencia Boulevard – at Magic Mountain Parkway
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita and the Valencia Library is hosting a free screening of “BE SAFE The Movie.”  Teens and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are invited to attend with their parents, teachers and service providers.  Five deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station will be at the screening.  The purpose of the movie is to increase the awareness of encounters between law enforcement and individuals with ASD or similar conditions.  After the screening there will be interactive activities.  

Rescues On The Fairway

When:  Monday, March 10 from 8am-6pm
Where:  Tournament Players Club, 26550 Heritage View Drive, Stevenson Ranch
Details:  Recues on the Runway are hosting their First Annual Charity Golf Tournament “Rescues on the Fairway.”  There is room for 100 players.  The TCP Valencia is a par-72 championship course.  Tickets are $250 per person or $900 for four.  Tickets include 18 holes of golf and a meal at the Oaks Grille.  Models will be showing the rescue shelter dogs donations will help save.  Learn more about Rescues on the Runway online.  http://www.rescuesontherunway.org/

Details:  The Congressional Art Competition is now accepting artwork submissions.  The competition is open to all high school students within the California 25th District represented by Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon.  Read more about the competition, criteria, submission locations and past winners in an article on the KHTS website: Congressional Art Competition Accepting Submissions Until April 21.
