Whether you are brave enough to dive into sub-50-degree water or not, all participants are asked to fundraise a minimum of $50 for Special Olympic athletes.

Participants will be divided into four groups. The “Plungers” will bravely take a dive. Those “too chicken to plunge” will watch the plungers from their “chicken coop.” “Cubs,” or children 12 years old or younger, can plunge into a shallow pool instead of the lake. And if you can’t make it to the event, you can still donate through the website.

You can currently register through the Polar Plunge website, and share with the community how much you are fundraising.

Although participants are welcome to wear swimsuits they are encouraged to wear their favorite costume, and the best may be rewarded.

The Castaic Lions Club will provide a pancake breakfast, Sean Lee will DJ and the Coca-Cola Polar Bear will visit the event.

Fundraising tips are offered on the Polar Plunge website. Those who raise the $50 minimum that is asked will receive a long sleeve t-shirt, $150 will earn you a towel, $350 will earn you a hoodie, $1,000 earns a jacket, $750 earns a mystery box and $1,500 or more will get all the above mentioned prizes.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the Special Olympics’ largest grassroots fundraising program and is hosting the Polar Plunge. Officers representing a variety of law enforcement agencies throughout Southern California have raised over $1.3 million in 2013 through Tip-A-Cop dinners, Plane Pulls, 5K/10K runs, raffles, car shows, bike rides, Polar Plunges, Adopt-a-Cop programs, golf tournaments and other special events.

The plunge will take place at the Castaic Lake Lower Lake. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., the Cub Plunge is at 9:30 a.m. and everyone else will plunge at 10:00 a.m.
