'Read Across America Day' At Santa Clarita Libraries

Category:

The Santa Clarita Valley Libraries are going to be celebrating ‘Read Across America Day’ by reading one of the world’s most beloved children’s authors, Theodore Seuss Deisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.

In honor of Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’ birthday, some of his most famous books like “Horton Hears a Who”, “The Cat in the Hat”, and “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” will be brought to life at your favorite Santa Clarita Library branch.

Read Across America Day is an annual reading motivation and awareness program designed to encourage communities to celebrate reading. It started in 1997 with the National Education Association (NEA) and has spread all across the country, inspiring young minds to pick up a book and open their imaginations for years past and for many years to come. This year’s event takes place on March 2nd, 2014.

There will be many different Dr. Seuss themed activities and story times that will be hosted at all three library branches. Each of the programs are free and open to the public. The activities and their times are as follows:

    • Canyon Country branch- Saturday, March 1st, from 1PM- 3PM
    • Old Town Newhall branch- Monday, March 3rd, from 12:30PM-1:30PM
    • Valencia branch- Saturday, March 8th, from 1PM- 3PM

Each program and activity is designed to inspire imagination, creativity and curiosity as well as teach children that reading is fun and should be done often. They are also suitable for all ages.

In the past, Read Across America Day has been very evident in the community, especially in the elementary schools, and it will be a pleasure to have these activities at the local libraries. Everyone in the area is encouraged to go to participate and to bring their young ones to have fun and learn together.
