The first of its kind, the fundraiser, which is being held on Hart High School’s running track, intends to provide needed funds to help the Boys & Girls Club, according to a letter distributed by the club to potential sponsors.
“The kids and staff will run, walk and jog for one hour on the track in order to raise money for the club” said Noelle Chadbourne, a volunteer for the Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club. “The children are helping to collect donations and find sponsors who will provide them with money for each lap they complete.”
The club, with more than 200 members, recently closed down its art center due to budget constraints, according to the letter.
“We only charge club members $36 a year,” Chadbourne said. “This helps to support many different activities including sports programs, after-school care, academic tutoring and art and music instruction. We are hoping this fundraiser will help us to continue to provide quality programs for the children in our community.”
The money raised by the jog-a-thon will go directly toward the reopening and funding of the art center in Newhall, according to the letter. Current sponsors include Golden Spoon, Union Bank, Crippen Mortuary and David A. Tanner D.D.S.
For businesses or individuals interested in donating, contact Chadbourne at nchadbournebgc@gmail.com. Funds can be sent directly to the club at 24909 Newhall Ave and all donations are tax deductable.
